Frequently Asked Questions
What do people come to you for?
Anything from sexual dysfunction to expanding erotic horizons. Common requests include:
early/delayed ejaculation (ejaculation choice)
pelvic health/vaginismus
relaxation techniques
fetishes and kinks
relationship styles
gender exploration
anal pleasure
consent and boundaries
What are the benefits of bodywork?
Somatic sex coaching can help to:
Reunite body and mind, build communication skills, clarify desires and wants, reduce blood pressure, promote relaxation, calm the mind, regulate the central nervous system, build awareness, cultivate a sense of agency and choice, provide tools to navigate your daily life AND your erotic/romantic experience.
The practices of Sexological Bodywork aim to cultivate listening and communication skills, clarify and help you practice consent, help alleviate physiological (sexual/erotic/genital) issues.
Do I have to be naked?
No. Nudity is a personal choice, it is welcome in session, but not necessary at all. There are a myriad of practices that can be undertaken clothed (or non-clothed if you choose). As with everything Sexological Bodywork - everything is the client’s choice.
Boundaries and enthusiastic consent are key to this practice. If it’s not an emphatic yes, it’s a no. Nothing is expected, everything is welcome.
You should wear loose, comfortable clothing you can move in.
How do I know if this is for me?
Asking that question is the beginning of your journey.
You might not know what you want exactly, but in session we work together to mine your erotic and daily history for focus points.
Most importantly, this practice gives you a safe space to explore your erotic life, sexual wants and needs, history, life and relationships.
Everything is welcome, nothing is expected.
How does this practice work ethically?
Sexological Bodywork practitioners make no claim to diagnose, treat or prevent any medical or psychological condition. We work as educators with a focus solely on the clients experience within their body. Touch is one-way directional from practitioner to client with the understanding that we are not surrogate partners fulfilling sexual needs. Practitioners act as a guide who can, if requested, work with your other healthcare professionals, psychologists, doctors to compliment and extend the work you’re already doing.
Informed consent forms the basis of all session work. Sexological Bodyworkers work within the parameters of the Professional Code of Ethics set by the SSEAA.
What happens in a session?
A 90 minute session will be our opportunity to get to know your erotic life, chat about history, set boundaries and intentions for our practice, and then move to relevant somatic practice.
This might be guided meditation, imagery, hands on (or off) touch based work, movement, games, simple exercises, vocal intoning or breath work just to name a few.
Your body learns with practice and repeating exercises helps form new neural pathways. After session we debrief about your experience and work to find ways to reinforce your learnings in your daily practices.
